Boy Racer

We have a good local library here in town. It helps that one of the Pacer officers works there. It seems like there is always a book that interests me.

For example, I have started reading “Boy Racer” by Mark Cavendish (2009). I have not read much of the book yet so I can’t comment on if it is any good but the following in the prologue did stand out.

A lot of professional athletes have performance anxiety or whatever psychology wants to call it, but winners, born winners like me, just want sunshine blown up their arses. Or if you prefer slightly less vulgar translation, I don’t want the truth – I just want to be told I’m the best.

Is that being confident or cocky?

I think a certain amount of confidence is needed to go into a race...if you don't believe in yourself, how can you perform your best...whatever that may be for you

I agree with Rach, but at the same time I think that quote is hilarious!

I admit that since I've started racing, some of my own friends have commented on how my ego is too big. Some of them know I just talk big and I don't actually believe I'm #1, but you have to believe you CAN be in order for it to happen.

I'll hold judgement until you finish the book. As long as it's not overdone, the confidence is a big help!

Keep reading. There's a lot of comments like that in the book. Some unique insight.
