Masters Swim came early but not as early as last week. Maybe I will get the hang of this yet. We had a lot of instruction during this session. The instruction time allowed me to stretch out my legs in the water. Normally I am not much of a stretcher but in the water I was more agile. I think it did the body good.
We then moved onto the main set. It consisted of 3 x ( 5 x 100 @ 1:32 on 1:45 ). Just 1500 yards. I am not sure if it is the lack of swim training (well, I am sure it is) or what but I am having trouble holding my paces. I have been trying to keep the stroke count down – near my model which is 16 – 17. I am only able to keep this for the first couple of laps. Then it rises. It rises dramatically to 19 – 20. I need to find that balance between speed and efficiency.
At lunch I stayed off of the run. Not risking anything. I jumped on the fancy elliptical trainer – the Cybex 750AT arch trainer. This is the only elliptical machine that I have ever liked. You can control the speed, resistance and step height – pretty cool. I got a good workout on the machine and I had zero discomfort in my legs.
I have a scheduled hard tempo run. I am going to approach this run very carefully. I am going to do some walking and then an easy jog. If I experience zero pain then I might try a few strides. I am prepared to shut it down if necessary.

Thanks for the comment. I know. Same thing man, if I feel the pain I am mailing it in and walking back. I have found that with that knee brace I bought though, there is minimal pain. I think it keeps the tendon from rubbing or something.
Loved the pic for this post haha.
Elliptical... ugh. Last resort, I will go to the rec and get on the elliptical to get my time in.
Good luck and be smart.
Matty-O –
Since I am starting my taper I think I will be okay. And although I normally detest the elliptical – I actually like that new fancy one at the gym. You can adjust the speed, resistance and height of the steps. I got a really good workout with no impact yesterday.
I like the elliptical to loosen my legs
I have a question for you. When I first got into the sport, I was extremely lucky to be mentored by Gordo Byrn, it was a group of us. He told us to run everyday, even on our non run focus day, run at least a mile after your swim or bike. Years later, with me relearning how to run and with it being my limiter, what is your opinion on this?
Thanks
Well Big Daddy D –
I am a runner. I like to run often (if not every day). I think with a sport like triathlon it just becomes unmanageable to run every day. I guess it comes down to I would if I could.
That being said, if I am running hard, structured workouts then the rest in between makes a difference. I get used to training on tired legs but it can take its toll on the hard workouts – mainly tempos.
Now if I am just building volume, then 2 and even 3 runs a day 6 – 7 days a week is manageable. I just wouldn’t want to do any of them hard.
I am consistently stunned by the measure of data accessible on this subject. What you displayed was all around looked into and eloquent with a specific end goal to get your stand on this crosswise over to every one of your perusers. Best Elliptical Machine of 2016 – Top 5
