Masters Swim came early but not as early as last week. Maybe I will get the hang of this yet. We had a lot of instruction during this session. The instruction time allowed me to stretch out my legs in the water. Normally I am not much of a stretcher but in the water I was more agile. I think it did the body good.
We then moved onto the main set. It consisted of 3 x ( 5 x 100 @ 1:32 on 1:45 ). Just 1500 yards. I am not sure if it is the lack of swim training (well, I am sure it is) or what but I am having trouble holding my paces. I have been trying to keep the stroke count down – near my model which is 16 – 17. I am only able to keep this for the first couple of laps. Then it rises. It rises dramatically to 19 – 20. I need to find that balance between speed and efficiency.
At lunch I stayed off of the run. Not risking anything. I jumped on the fancy elliptical trainer – the Cybex 750AT arch trainer. This is the only elliptical machine that I have ever liked. You can control the speed, resistance and step height – pretty cool. I got a good workout on the machine and I had zero discomfort in my legs.
I have a scheduled hard tempo run. I am going to approach this run very carefully. I am going to do some walking and then an easy jog. If I experience zero pain then I might try a few strides. I am prepared to shut it down if necessary.
